That &quot;nearly 400&quot; number keeps tripping me up. My list, dumped from the NPS website, lists 460, but that list includes &quot;national heritage corridors&quot;, which are groupings of non-NPS sites for recognition, but aren&#039;t really NPS sites. There are other funky things on that list that actually counts things twice.

I think there are 397 official national park sites, but I doubt even our beloved government knows exactly how many.</description>
